 got dirt?
keep your system running cool and quiet

Skyward PC is proud to offer Computer Cleaning Services!

In studies carried out by the University of Arizona, it was discovered that the average computer keyboard contains 400x more germs than the average toilet seat - including e.coli.

Why Use Skyward PC To Clean Your Computer or Server?

Go ahead and take a look at the back of your computer. Go ahead, we can wait. Can you see the air intake? What about the power supply cooling fan? Behind that, a fan starts to rotate the minute you power up your machine, taking in cool air to keep the temperature on your processor down. Along with that cool air, dust and particles get sucked into your machine. These rest on vital components of your PC - motherboard, RAM, graphics card, printer card, network card, etc, and build up layers of dirt on them. They also build up around the fan, slowing it down. One day, that fan will stop... your processor will overheat... your work will be lost... Costing you untold $$$'s to fix... Or maybe even costing you a new machine.

Other Factors to Consider:

Every time you power up your computer, the fan on your machine starts spinning, cooling your power unit. Another fan spins on your processor, cooling this. Both these fans suck cool air from outside into your machine.

However, along with this cool air comes a colossal amount of debris from the surrounding environment.

Do you work in an office? Think of all the paper particles floating in the air - and being sucked into your machine. Upon opening a PC unit, you'll be amazed at the dirt and rubbish that builds up amongst the components. A thin layer of dirt residue lies on the vital components. These build up static electricity, which could short at any time. Can you use your PC without it's graphic card? Printer card? Network card? RAM? Motherboard? Hard drive? CD ROM? DVD? If any one of those components shorts, the whole machine is rendered useless until a replacement is purchased. True, components are getting cheaper - but maintenance is cheaper than replacement!

Think About This:

You regularly take your car to the experts to have it serviced - not because it is broken - to keep it in good running order, and to minimize expensive repair costs. Why neglect your PC?

Over time, your computer will build up dirt and dust. Take preventative measures to protect your data!

Lets Get Cleaning!

Let's start at the beginning: The computer is a complex machine of delicate, expensive components, and must be treated with care. Skyward PC thoroughly services your machine, covering four main areas: Keyboard, Monitor, Mouse and Server/Desktop Unit. We're now going to spend a little time analyzing these four areas in greater detail:

Phase One: The Keyboard:

The degree of cleaning depends on the severity of the problem. For general domestic and commercial clients, the following technique is used: First the keyboard is wiped with a cloth which has been sprayed with a Special Cleaning Agent. This removes the stubborn grime nestled on top of the keys. Next, each key is thoroughly cleansed. Pressurized air is used to dislodge crumbs, finger nails and other undesirables from under the keys, and then a low-suction vacuum is used to remove these n permanently. Finally, the keyboard is cleaned with a disinfectant/anti-bacterial wipe.

Stage Two: The Monitor:

The monitor is the simplest component to clean, but one that should not be overlooked as being unimportant.

Starting with the Special Cleaning Agent, the monitor's outer casing is cleaned. This area can get quite grubby, with pen marks around the monitor screen itself, and a build-up of dust and dirt on top. These areas are wiped down, and also cleaned with a disinfectant wipe. Following that, the main screen area is cleansed. This is typically accomplished with a specialist cleaning wipe, dependant on monitor type, eg CRT, TFT, LCD, etc. It is important that monitor is well maintained, as this is the main viewing area, and if your vision is impeded in any way by dirt it could damage your eyesight.

Stage Three: The Mouse:

Do you ever get sick of 'sticky mouse'? You know, when you move the mouse but it only goes so far, and you have to keep picking it up and banging it down? Why does this happen? Because it needs cleaning!

The mouse is cleaned by firstly removing the trackball. Upon inspection, it is evident that there is much dirt on it. This comprises of dust, crumbs, hair and other dirt which gets onto your mouse mat and subsequently into your mouse. The problem doesn't stop there. The rollers inside your mouse, which the ball rotates and makes the cursor move on screen, are also bogged down with dirt, which stop these from rotating, causing 'Sticky Mouse'. The dirt needs to be scraped from these rollers, and extracted from the mouse to prevent further problems. The mouse is then cleaned using the compressed air and low suction vacuum.

If you have a laser/optical mouse, we clean the optical lens with a delicate cleaning swap to prevent scratching the lens.

Stage Four: The Server/Desktop Unit:

This is the most complicated and delicate to clean. Upon removing the casing, your are greeted by a complex design of wires, system cards and vital components.

These are generally coated in a layer of dust, brought in via the cooling fans on the unit. This dirt - hazardous to the health of your computer - needs to be removed!

How is this accomplished? The areas that are easy to access are firstly wiped down with a soft brush, removing loose fragments of dirt. Each component is cleaned in this way. Then, in the less accessible areas, the compressed air is used to remove the grime. This is also used to displace stubborn dirt. Finally, the low suction vacuum is carefully used, maneuvering around the components, ensuring that not a spot is left within.

To complete the cleansing of the Server/Desktop Unit, the casing is again cleansed using the Special Cleansing Agent, and wiped down thoroughly.

Now that you have had your machine cleaned, it will be in top working order! However, like every machine, servicing should take place regularly - which raises the question: How often should my PC be professionally cleaned?

Commercial clients with heavy usage (i.e. computers running for long periods with multi users - for example call centre run machines) should be cleaned on a three-monthly basis, to ensure non-stop access to their machines.

Commercial clients with typical usage (i.e computers running typically from nine til five, Monday to Friday) should have their units cleaned every six months. This will ensure that their machines will continue running healthily, and prevent time consuming, expensive breakdowns.

Residential clients who have casual usage (i.e. computer running on an evening to browse the internet, type school assignments, play games, etc) should have their machines cleaned annually. Again, this regular preventative maintenance ensures that the machine is constantly in good working order, just when you need it.

Given the knowledge about the damage that dust and dirt can cause...
